The experience

A cruise unlike any other

Discover what lies beneath the surface of the Mediterranean

🔭 What is the Aquavista system?

The Aquavista is a unique boat equipped with 2 floats featuring 24 large fully submerged windows, which let you observe marine life without getting wet. Comfortably seated on board, you watch the Côte Vermeille seabed live through these wide glass panels built into the hull.

🐠 What you will see

During the dedicated underwater observation stop, you will discover:

  • Posidonia meadows, the lungs of the Mediterranean
  • Fish in their natural habitat: white seabream, damselfish, sars, and sometimes even barracudas!
  • The rocks and underwater relief of the Côte Vermeille
  • Anemones, sea urchins and starfish clinging to the seabed

🗺 The route

Departure from Argelès-sur-Mer or Port-Vendres for a 1h45 commented cruise along the Côte Vermeille. The skipper introduces the landscapes, the coves and the history of the coast.

🔭 The underwater vision stop

The underwater vision stop takes place at Cap Béar, where the waters are much clearer. This stop lasts 5 to 10 minutes — we make several passes so everyone gets a great view. Thanks to the 24 large submerged windows spread across the 2 floats, every passenger enjoys an exceptional view of the seabed.

Frequently asked questions about Underwater Vision

What is the Aquavista glass-bottom system?
The Aquavista is a catamaran equipped with a patented underwater vision system: 24 large windows are integrated into both floats of the boat, submerged below the waterline. Every passenger can watch the seabed live, as in a giant aquarium. A KapMer exclusive on the Côte Vermeille.
How long does the Underwater Vision cruise last?
The cruise lasts 1h45 in total. You sail along the coast from Argelès-sur-Mer or Port-Vendres with live commentary by the skipper. The underwater vision stop takes place at Cap Béar, where the waters are at their clearest: it lasts 5 to 10 minutes with several passes so everyone gets a great view.
What can you see underwater?
Off Cap Béar the waters are clear and Mediterranean wildlife is abundant: shoals of salema and bogue, sea urchins, starfish, posidonia (the Mediterranean is home to the largest posidonia meadow). With a bit of luck: groupers, conger eels, even gilthead bream. All without getting wet, in full sunshine.
Is the cruise suitable for children?
Yes, it is one of our trips favoured by families. Babies under 3 sail for free, children aged 3 to 11 pay €20. The view through the windows is especially fascinating for children, who discover the sea as if in a documentary. The boat has a covered area and an upper deck.
Do you need to know how to swim?
Not at all. The Underwater Vision cruise takes place entirely aboard a 12-metre boat, and you stay dry throughout. The submerged windows are accessible from inside the catamaran. It is an activity for everyone, including those who prefer not to swim or who cannot swim.
When does the Aquavista Underwater Vision cruise run?
The Aquavista sails from 20 June to 20 September. In June and September, Underwater Vision trips are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In July and August, several departures per week. Booking recommended as seats are limited on this boat, smaller than the Barracuda.

The seabed you observe leads to the Banyuls Marine Reserve

Posidonia, groupers, red gorgonians: the waters off Cap Béar mark the gateway to the first marine reserve in French Mediterranean waters. A unique coast — terraced vineyards included.
